The first of St. Vincent Catholic Charities’ annual collection campaigns is Spring Into Giving. This household needs drive collects donations that assistance children and families in need. The largest number of families needing household gifts come from our Refugee Resettlement program. The most common needs include pots and pans, cooking utensils, dishes, bowls and cutlery, sheets (twins and doubles preferred) and towels, cleaning supplies and tools. These can be gently used, or we will accept gift cards from local stores where these items may be purchased. The campaign typically runs during March and April. Operation Backpack helps to send children in-need back to school equipped with the necessary materials to learn. Co-chaired by Lupe Izzo & Brig Sorber, backpacks and school supplies are collected throughout the community during July and August and are ultimately distributed to STVCC children at the end of August. The “Be An Angel” Holiday Giving Drive is one of our largest donation drives of the year. During the drive, members of the community can pickup “Be An Angel” tags at Holiday Giving Trees at the Lansing Mall and Meridian Mall, or at participating store locations in the Eastwood Towne Center. Each gift tag contains information on a specific item to be purchased and donated, which will go to the clients of St. Vincent Catholic Charities. In addition to the gift tags, options to “Adopt a Child,” or to “Adopt a Family” are available, which allow individuals or organizations to purchase specific items that are identified on the child’s or family’s wish list. The Holiday Giving campaign runs during November and December. Learn more at stvcc.org/holiday-giving.
