Operation Backpack Giveaway Event Scheduled for Children of St. Vincent Catholic Charities

St. Vincent Catholic Charities (STVCC) will be hosting the annual Operation Backpack giveaway rally in the STVCC Children’s Home gymnasium on Tuesday, August 25 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  At the rally, residents of the STVCC Children’s Home will listen to inspirational speakers, and then will select a donated backpack complete with supplies for the upcoming school year.  Following the event, the remaining backpacks will be distributed to children in STVCC’s adoption, foster care, and refugee resettlement programs.

Operation Backpack is a month-long backpack and school supply drive in the Lansing community.  This year’s campaign is co-chaired by Lupe Izzo and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK CEO Brig Sorber.   The campaign is a collaboration between STVCC, sponsors WILX-TV Channel 10 and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, and community partners Capitol National Bank and RE/MAX Real Estate to collect a total goal of 1,250 backpacks.  In addition, Congressman Mike Bishop of Michigan’s 8th Congressional District and Delta Dental have served as collection sites.

Speakers at the event will include STVCC CEO Andrea Seyka, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK CEO Brig Sorber, a video message from Lupe Izzo, and representatives from WILX-TV Channel 10, Capitol National Bank, RE/MAX Real Estate, and Delta Dental.

The Children’s Home is located at 2800 W. Willow St., Lansing, Mich., 48917.
