Anna, one of the teens in our Children’s Home, recently lost contact with her biological family when their parental rights were terminated. This was devastating for Anna, and she was having a hard time coping with that loss. Loss is hard.

But at STVCC, hope is not lost.

Many of our kids, like Anna, have trouble regulating their emotions, and one particularly tough morning Anna was really struggling and acting out during her school day in our Education Wing. Anna was allowed to go into a quieter space but was crying and calling out for her dad. Danielle, one of our Program Managers, and Promise, our therapeutic service dog, were called in to action! Promise provided much needed comfort for Anna, even licking the tears from her face. Anna was able to re-center herself, relax, have lunch, and turn the rest of her day into a positive experience!

Promise provides comfort and love to our kids on their healing journey. But she is looking to retire in the near future, so we will need to purchase, train, and care for a new therapeutic service dog. For #GivingTuesday we are asking for your help to raise the funds needed to provide a new dog for our children. Thank you to Delta Dental of Michigan for their generous challenge gift of $3,000 to help us reach our goal!
