New Faces for Operation Backpack 2015
We’re very excited for the launch of Operation Backpack 2015, beginning our twelfth year providing backpacks to children and the less fortunate in the greater Lansing area. The amount of support from the community has been tremendous, and we’re eternally grateful for all the backpacks and school supplies we have received over the years. Each donation has had a profound impact on the lives of the children and individuals we serve, providing the resources necessary to achieve their educational goals.
As part of this year’s campaign, we’d like to introduce a few new personalities. We’d first like to welcome TWO MEN AND A TRUCK CEO Brig Sorber as the new honorary co-chair, who will be joining long-time co-chair Lupe Izzo. We’re ecstatic to have the support of both Lupe Izzo and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, who have been valuable supporters of Operation Backpack.
United States Congressman Mike Bishop will also be joining us this year, hosting a one-day collection event on August 17 during his Meridian Township office hours. With education a primary focus for Congressman Bishop, we’re glad to include him in our donation efforts.
Flat Packy
Our newest addition is Flat Packy, a character that will be traversing the globe to bring awareness to Operation Backpack. Over the next month, we will be bringing you “The Adventures of Flat Packy,” sharing photos of Flat Packy across the Lansing area, Washington D.C., and even Italy. We encourage you to “LIKE” St. Vincent Catholic Charities on Facebook if you haven’t already, and follow updates on Flat Packy’s journey. You can also download your own Flat Packy, showing your support by sharing a photo of Flat Packy at your place of work, at home, or when you donate school supplies. Just remember to include #OperationBackpack in your post!
We look forward to having you join us for another month of providing help and creating hope in our community. For more information on drop-sites and school supply needs, please visit www.stvcc.org/Operation-Backpack.
